Bollywood: Eight feet under - June 5 by Sabah Shaikh Three years after Mumbai’s maniacal monsoon brought the city to a standstill, Bollywood celebs are still haunted by its memories. Apparently, one of the worst hit areas in the July 26 deluge is also one of the most famed in the city. The area in question is that part of suburban Mumbai that stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Shatrughan Sinha, Govinda, Ajay Devgan and a horde of others call home. On that ill-fated day, star bungalows, including the Bachchans’ Prateeksha, were submerged in up to eight feet of water. Residents went without electricity, food and drinking water for five days and were hassled by the sight of their furniture floating about. With the onset of the rains this year, a group of celebs came forward with a morcha to shake the city’s municipal corporation out of its lethargy. Shatrughan Sinha’s wife thingyam, filmmaker Ashok Pandit and socialite Anju Mahendroo were heard mouthing their angst. Actor Ajay Devgan couldn’t make it to the event, but especially requested authorities to deal with the situation later at a press conference. Amitabh Bachchan has supposedly raised the issue through his blog, but gave the event a miss, as did Govinda, Hrithik Roshan, Zayed Khan and others. www.zoomtv.in/view/news/bollywood-eight-feet-under-0
