All B-town A-Listers living in Juhu ignored a residents’ meeting about civic issues on Sunday
The Juhu Scheme Residents’ Association (JSRA)has been taken aback by the total apathy of the film folk for the area they reside in.
The saucer-shaped area that is submerged every monsoon had the association giving a wake-up call to the celebrity neighbours to highlight the issue that drowns them every year.
While filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt is setting up a meeting with Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, the rest of the stars have evinced no interest in the issue.
Where are the Bachchans?
JSRA dispatched letters to the residents including the stars, to attend a meeting held over the weekend, opposite the Bachchan bungalow Pratiksha.
But only Amrita Singh, thingyam Sinha, Kalpana Lajmi and Anju Mahendroo turned up. Ajay Devgan and Kajol who were shooting, agreed to speak to the television media during a break in the shoot.
Adds the onlooker, “The residents’ association was shocked that the Bachchans who are hard-hit and have lost several valuables in the floods showed no interest at all.”
Clear and widen, please!
After the July 2005 monsoon fury, which left several stars’ homes flooded including the Bachchans’, the residents’ association has been taking an active interest to get the Irla nallah cleared and widened which is the main cause of the rain havoc.
Says an onlooker, “It was shocking that except for a handful, the rest of the film folk don’t seem to be bothered by what affects them. It leaves them in waist-deep water and their fancy cars marooned. When the area gets flooded they are the first ones to complain and say how they had to check into hotels as they cannot reach their home!”
Still waiting
According to film scribe-turned-writer Nina Arora, who has her family staying in the area, “I was approached by the association’s campaigners to help muster support of the stars. But I was shocked to find only a handful of them present. I am just helping the stars not to end up like drowing rats!
Nero fiddled while Rome burnt and the stars are happy to be in the AC comfort of a hotel while their homes get submerged. The association is trying their best to be heard by the authorities concerned and the presence of the stars can certainly make this possible.”
Sherley Singh, wife of music composer Raju Singh, who is the secretary of the Juhu Scheme Residents’ Association maintains, “May be the letters did not reach the stars. But I am sure that they will come forward and provide support.”
Some of the film folk who reside in the JVPD Scheme area include:
The Bachchans – Amitabh, Jaya, Abhishek, Aishwarya
The chopras — Yash and Pamela; Aditya-Uday
The Deols – Dharmendra, Sunny Deol, Bobby
Anil and Sunita Kapoor
Sanjay and Maheep Kapoor
Ajay Devgan and Kajol
Hrithik and Rakesh Roshan
Rajesh Roshan
Jeetendra
Ekta and Tusshar Kapoor
Firoz Nadiadwala
Paresh Rawal and Swaroop Sampat
Hema Malini and Esha Deol
Danny Dengzongpa
Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt
Rajkumar Santoshi
Shatrughan and thingyam Sinha
Amrita Singh
Anju Mahendroo
What they told the association..
Sunita Anil Kapoor was overheard teling Anju Mahendroo that they don’t want to make it into an Aamir Khan-Medha Patkar issue!
Amitabh Bachchan’s office confirmed the receipt of the letter.
Ajay Devgan claimed that maybe several of the star residents were unaware about the meeting
Hema Malini and Esha Deol claimed they had to make a trip to Vaishno Devi
Rakesh Roshan claimed he was unaware about the circular
