I guess I wrote the above just because even I had a small brush or rather I witnessed the ruthlessness of Mother Nature on the 26TH July’05; memories of that day still refuse to leave my mind. Later On!!! The incident caught the attention of the World because the financial capital had put the entire nation on a standstill. I remember on that ill fated day, as far as we could see there was only water logging and there were only people on the either ends of the assumed road, which was underwater with floating vehicles and there was no difference between a Celeb human and a common human being, we were all facing the wrath of Mother Nature at the same time. The cloudburst had caused Flash Floods in Mumbai and as per History; Mumbai had witnessed a similar situation about eight or nine decades ago. However after the whole disaster which left the entire Mumbai paralyzed for almost a week, meanwhile on the other hand there were some shocking revelations which were brought to light. Apart from nature, who was indeed ruthless but we as people living in Mumbai had abused and overused the space and resources to the brim. One of the prime reason for this calamity which affected so many were just Plastic Bags and Debris which choked the open streams and river path, which affected the flow of rain water which meets the sea, in turn breaking the boundaries of Mithi river.
Perhaps now our authorities are behaving in a much more responsible manner, wherein first and foremost they have banned the usage of plastic bags and that is commendable. Similarly I just read that even a country like China has implemented a Ban on ultra thin plastic bags. I also read that there has been a break through by a 16 years old Canadian kid, who has made plastic bags decompose in just 3 months instead of 1000 years!!! I feel man has once again asked nature to help in the problems which are created by man himself. Once again I appeal to one and all, Stop Abusing Mother Nature.
