On the sets of Rohit Shetty’s sequel
The gadbad gang: Ajay Devgan, Kareena Kapoor, Rohit Shetty, Tusshar Kapoor, Amrita Arora on the sets of Golmaal Returns
It’s fun time on the sets of Ashtavinayak’s Golmaal Returns in Goa. We land up at Baywatch Resorts, where director Rohit Shetty is explaining a shot to the film’s cast: Ajay Devgan, Arshad Warsi, Kareena Kapoor, Tusshar Kapoor and Amrita Arora.
Says Rohit, whose wife Maya and son Ishaan are also on the sets, “GR is wilder and funnier than Golmaal. Tusshar plays a mute guy and he’s my favourite character. In fact, Arshad remarked the other day, ‘yeh Tusshar bina kuch bolke bahut kuch keh jaata hai.’”
The director adds, “Kareena’s character is a typical Balaji serial watcher. A bahu who lives and breathes soaps. I got the character from my mom. Kareena’s character has a suspicious nature; always doubting her husband (Ajay Devgan).”
Only mom knows
Does Ekta know that a spoof is being made on her? “No,” laughs brother Tusshar and adds, “Only mom (Shobha Kapoor) knows. I don’t know how Ekta will react. Tusshar plays Kareena’s brother who is always caught between the couple. One of the scenes that we got to see, had Kareena questioning Ajay about getting late, but the fun really began when Tusshar starts siding with Ajay.
Even the normally taciturn Ajay Devgan melts under Ishaan’s toothy charm. “I miss my family a lot when they are away,” confesses Ajay quietly when asked about Kajol, Tanishaa and Nysa who just left the week before. However, the next moment, he makes a terrified Amrita Arora believe she has to ride a menacing bike. “But I thought it was a scootie,” she wails. Just then the crew tells her that it’s just one of Ajay’s jokes.
Arshad’s wife, Maria makes a grand entry, cycling all the way from her hotel, 12 kms away. A concerned Arshad tells Kareena, “It’s not safe. I can’t believe Maria did this!” He talks about his role as a cop. “My character thinks Ajay is doing some gadbad so we’re at loggerheads.”
Wisening up
After the shot, Ajay sits with his ‘durbar’ — Kareena, Tusshar and Amrita — cracking jokes. Kareena says she has to return to Mumbai. Ajay tells her there are no tickets available till Sunday.” Kareena is wise to Ajay’s pranks and tells the production guy, “Mujhe kisi bhi haalat mein kal ka ticket chahiye. Bas!”
